I’m an information technology professional, so of course, I had heard of Bitcoin, Ethereum and stuff like that. I’ve always been suspicious of the subject and even a little afraid. Saulo, a friend from grad school, has tried to convince me to enter this world since we met in 2017. I never paid much attention. His Ph.D. is in blockchain, and mine is in games. Of course, he is passionate about the subject. And he doesn’t play video games either, so we have a deal.

In 2021 I went to pass the (Canadian) Thanksgiven at my brother’s house in Stainback, and we took the opportunity to bring the matter up to date. He told me about Axie Infinity, a blockchain-based game, and that people made money with a new concept called play-to-earn.

Well, now that games are involved, the subject has piqued my attention. I decided to look at the rabbit hole, I ended up diving deep, and now I don’t want to go out anymore. I’m about to include an entire blockchain chapter in my Ph.D. thesis, even if I’m postponing my graduation for another year.

I will use this space as a way to transform my ideas and perceptions into something concrete. If you’ve read this far, I hope you enjoyed it. And I warn you: be careful when looking in the rabbit hole. If you dive into it, it will be challenging to get out.
